Seven Card Stud Poker

Seven Card Stud is a game of uncertainty. What cards you play and how you play them is entirely dependant on what the other players has showing. There is no set basic strategy that can be used in all situations.

Seven Card Stud is a high card game. More winning hands are decided by the highest pair of two pair or just the highest pair, than by straights, flushes and other big hands. So if you start with a straight or flush draw, it should have at least two high cards or at least one card that is higher than anything up on the board. These draw hands and low pair starting hands need to improve or turn a high pair quickly to justify continued play. Any time your high hand is beaten on the board, fold, unless you think you still have the best draw hand. Slow playing of draw hands keep other players in the game and thus increases the pot odds.

If are you going to want to have any form of success at Seven Card Stud poker you will have to be at the top of your game. A different online poker game to what you were used to with Texas Holdem and Omaha, each player is dealt seven cards and there are no community cards. When it comes to online poker, seven card stud is probably the third in rankt. Seven Card Stud is a game for thinkers and so you have to be on the top of your game.

With so many cards dealt out of the deck, the strength of the winning hand required is going to be less than what you may be used to in other poker games. In Seven Card Stud two pair may be good enough to claim the pot.

In general, one of the key parts of Seven Card Stud Strategy is that Flushes are better options to go for when you have a fallback position of two pair or even a set. You may be not so sure about this due to what you have experienced before in online poker but its true.

Straights are easier to complete if they are open-ended. Again a back-up of a flush draw or high pairs is good to have.

Trips are good but you want to have improved it by sixth street especially with flush and straight possibilities that could bring you down.
